Volunteer help needed

Posted May 15, 2009

We are asking for help during our junior rodeo and also our open rodeo.  Below is a short description of the help needed:   If you can help in any way, please go to info@granbyrodeo.com to sign up. Thank you, in advance, for your help!!

Barrels - 3 people ready to set the barrels up at the markers, at the end of the grand entry, for the junior rodeo; remain throughout the event to set up knocked down barrels and then remove barrels at the end of the event.

Poles - 6 people ready to set poles at the markers after the last barrel racer. 2-3 people stay during the event to reset knocked down poles.  After the last pole bender finishes, 6 people to remove the poles.

Goat tying - 2 people to have goats ready.  Goats will be marked as to which one for each age group.  That information needs to be picked up from the crow nest ahead of time.  As the poles are being taken out, bring one goat in.  Meanwhile, the other goat handler has the next goat ready for the switch.  Hold goat for the contestant.  Ask the judge when to let go of the goat as the contestant enters the arena.

TIMED EVENT CHUTE

Calf roping, breakaway roping and team roping - 5-6 people on foot.  Pick up the draw from the crow's nest.  Be behind the roping box at the beginning of senior goat tying.  Sort and load calves, have one person keep the next animal pushed up and ready to go in the chute.  One person to put the neck rope on the animal, need to tie string for the neck rope. This person could be the person to open chute gate when the cowboy/cowgirl nods.  Another person to help judge tie and pull barrier.  This person will step out to the "line".  Another person to untie calves and retrieve hats.  2 people, in western attire, to chase cattle out of the arena.  2 people at the stripping chute taking ropes off and then putting calves/steers back into the correct pen.

ROUGH STOCK CHUTE

Calf riding, steer riding and bull riding - 4 people at the chute,  1 person to help sort and load, (Consult with Ron Tinkum, crew leader, who knows numbers and bulls) 1 person to load animal and push up into the next chute, 1 person to help flank, 1 person to open gate when cowboy nods, 2 people on horseback and 3 people at the derigging chute; 1 alert adult for out gate from the arena to the derigging chute, 1 person to open close gate when aninal goes into the derigging chute, 1 person to derig the animal and open front of the chute. 2 people on horseback- western attire with ropes capable to rope an animal, if necessary.

Additionally - 1 person to run arena gate for the entire rodeo.  1 person to have day sheet to listen to announcer to get kids in the arena when called.  1 person to haul junior animals.  Two trips before and after the junior rodeo.  (Goats, junior roping and riding steers and bulls needs a load out helper).  1 person to run drag during the barrels and poles and before the bull riding.  It would be helpful if the same person can also drag for the open rodeo.

Thank you, once again, for your support of the Flying Heels Rodeos!
